NSEC “Book Tasting”
Join us to share your book recommendations or come listen and add to your TBR ("too be read") List. Book topics may be related (but not limited) to: disabilities, neurodiversity, education, inclusion, and parenting.
Genres to consider: memoirs & personal narratives, practical guides & educational resources, and anthologies & shared essays. We also welcome you to share your favorite inclusive children's picture books as well as fiction and young adult (YA) novels that resonate with you and your family. All families across NSD, NOT just those whose students receive Special Education services, are invited to attend.

Washington State is currently reviewing and redesigning its high school graduation requirements through an initiative called FutureReady. Led by the Washington State Board of Education, FutureReady aims to ensure that students graduate with the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world. The effort is exploring ways to better prepare students for college, careers, and life while making graduation requirements more accessible, relevant, and equitable for all students. Areas under consideration include topics such as financial literacy, technology skills, career readiness, and other competencies identified by students, families, educators, and employers as important for future success.
The State Board of Education is actively seeking feedback from families, students, educators, and community members as it develops recommendations that could shape graduation requirements for future Washington students. Proposed changes are expected to be considered by the Legislature in 2027.
We encourage all families to learn more and share their perspectives.
